How to Train Your Dreamworks! April 3, 2010

With another Shriek on the way I was starting to loose faith in Dreamworks that they were gonna go down the tubes just as fast as every other production company that makes to many movies until they grow stale. Then I saw How to Train Your Dragon.

The details in this film are what really make it. Its very heart warming and great for kids, plus it has dragons. The message is awesome. Differences in others isn’t a bad thing. What a great message to send to kids these days.

I remember probably about a year ago, I watched a kid on Myspace’s Video of him making Halo armor and guns out of cardboard and I was thought to myself, “Oh my goodness, this kid is only 10 and he’s got so much creative potential.” Then I read the comments. People were telling him he was never gonna loose his virginity and that he was a loser. AT AGE 10!

I remember it being hard for me to grow up a nerd, I can only imagine how hard it is now with communication being so quick and easy. You do one stupid thing at a party and BAM its on Youtube for everyone to witness. One of the reasons I think this movie has so much potential for youngsters. Not to mention the fact that it is a beautiful and cute movie.

Oh god. Seriously. I loved this movie almost as much as I loved Wall-E. For two different reasons, but equally as cute.

Its inventive, and it could save you buying new underwear. Plus its recycling!

When I first moved to the town I live in now, my boyfriend at the time gave me a book to read while I was stuck in the hospital (long story short, I had a blood infection, it sucked) and I totally feel in love with it. Guy in a band falls for a girl on roller skates who delievers pizza. So what does he do, he orders tons of pizza. It just sounds like something one of my geeky friends in a band would do.

And then there was this.

Seriously, how could one geeky chick not be excited about this? Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim. Do you see the wacky fun that this movie will be? I’m so excited!

Baccano! Gangsters, Tommy Guns and Anime March 23, 2010

I’m a huge fan of the Roaring Twenties. I recently even cut my hair into a Lulu Brooks Bob and dyed it dark. That’s how much I love it. So when I was looking through the Animated selection on Hulu.com this past December, Baccano! caught my eye.

Its got some pretty ‘anime’ -esque parts, but its overall a great story with a wonderful cast of interesting, well thought out characters. The entire story is based around this secret special booze being smuggled in New York. Most of the show takes place on a train as characters reach New York for many different reasons and they all seem to intertwine seamlessly.

If you are okay with some zany anime moments, lots of bloody shoot em’ ups and twisting story lines, I totally recommend checking out Baccano! on Hulu.com.

Arkham Horror is seriously one of my favorite games ever. Its also a great way to learn more about the HP Lovecraft Mythos… even if it does play more like a DOOM run then a Mythos Story. And what better way to have even more fun in the game via putting yourself into it to travel through the Other Worlds! An awesome Character/Monster/Everything creator can be located here, plus its pretty darn balanced.

Yes I realize I would totally die in a fight, but atleast I’ll go down looking pretty eh?

Its hard enough as it is to find anything Planescape related online, let alone an entire club dedicated to fan art. So here, of all you planer people, a Deviant Art group dedicated to art from one of the best campaign settings I’ve ever played in!

Final Fantasy 13; So I’m a Bit Behind March 17, 2010

I’m a bit behind the times, I know, but after FF10 & FF12 and the whole other bunch of FF7 knock-offs started to surface, I wasn’t really as into the franchise as I had been in the past. As a personal note, I’ve always been into games that I felt had a really well fleshed out story. Good character build, rising action, climax and falling action. Final Fantasies of yestur-year, although lacking in beauty at times, seemed to focus so much on the story and as they got prettier and prettier, they started feeling like just another game. I guess a good analogy would  be FF6 was like the “When Harry Met Sally” of Romantic Comedies… and as they got older they just reminded me of any other romantic comedy you would pick up and forget about in a year. Its okay if this story doesn’t have a very interesting angle and characters you can forget, LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS! To be honest with you, I couldn’t tell you much about Lulu from FF10, except she’s a Black Mage, with Belts who eventually has a child with Wakka in FF10-2. But man, I could tell you all the kick ass mini stories of Edge in FF6 cause they were so memorable.

When I saw stuff for FF13, I told myself not to get excited. The world looks like it made of Transformers. Literally the buildings look like they could morph into Bumblebee. But then I watched this trailer… and I don’t know. Something spoke to me. Maybe because it has the same save the world feeling as FF7 or that the main character’s face looks like Cloud. But I don’t know, it just felt compelling again. Bunch of people made misfits because some government says they could destroy the world. There’s a theme there. A meaning that I felt I lost from Final Fantasies. Sooooo at some point I would like to see what this is all about.

In order to Cosplay a character from a TV show or a simpler costume, you gotta kind of look like the character in order to get that entire feel. I saw this picture by LJinto posted on his Flickr, and it makes me really excited to see the rest.
